Iron, the pure metal, is a deceptively difficult metal to find. The ordinary nail that you'd use on a two-by-four, and the head of the hammer you'd nail it with, are both made out of "iron," but both have small amounts of other elements added to improve various properties.
A nail made of 99.9% pure iron such as offered in these cubes might be more expensive and simultaneously more prone to breaking or bending all wrong when hammered. As a result, pure iron isn't generally used.
However, according to one industry report, a growing number of old school blacksmiths are requesting pure stock for specialty projects like gates and artwork. Why? Because it turns out that purified iron resists rusting better than ordinary grades of steel.
Now you can own a 10mm cube of 99.9% pure iron, with a weight of 7.7 +/- .1g.
