The asteroid Eros was discovered on the same day by two different observers in August of 1898.  Eros has multiple firsts to its credit - it is the first-known near-Earth asteroid, it was the first asteroid to be orbited by a spacecraft, and it was the first asteroid to have a spacecraft land on it.
