This large, stunning, and accurate Moon map is one that you’ll be proud to hang in your observatory or office. The U.S. Geological Survey created it in August 2015 from data returned by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which NASA launched June 18, 2009.
This color-coded Moon map shows differences in altitudes of lunar features, a range of some 12.5 miles. It combines more than 6 billion measurements from one of the instruments aboard the spacecraft — the Laser Altimeter.
The polar regions have a scale of 1:6,078,683, and the equatorial region has a scale of 1:10,000,000.
