Description

Enclosed in an acrylic case, this section of telemetry tape was taken from a larger spool recorded in October 1959 for the Explorer 7 satellite.

Interferometers recorded the position and velocity of satellites populating the skies. This section of tape is from the Minitrack station in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Explorer 7 mission achievements include measurements of cosmic rays, solar x-rays, trapped excited particles, and micrometeorites. It also collected the first measurements of Earth's climate.
